Cllr. Tom Doherty sought a update on the provision of a town bus service in view of the fact that there is still only one wheelchair accessible taxi in Killarney. In response the town clerk said that it had not been possible to address this project due to change in personnel but it would be activated

Does Killarney now have a Town Bus service? Or is this issue monopolised by people with vested interests e.g. the Taxi people?
I've wondered for many years why Killarney never got its act together to have a bus service, especially considering how many tourists as well would use a Town Bus service.
Nearly every town in the UK of comparable size has a Town Bus service providing a frequent service to the suburbs and hinterland.
At least the following clockwise loop is evident:
Bus Station > East Avenue > Beech Rd > Port Road > Rockery Road > Cork Road > Woodlawn Road > Muckross Road > East Avenue > Bus Station.
So the Killarnet Bus Service finally got provisioned in May 2006.
Interesting to read in the Kerryman that "The need for a local bus service within Killarney was identified by the Killarney Urban Masterplan..." but I had myself observed the same bus service deficiency 10 or more years previously!
The bus is a "fully accessible Ford Transit with a seating capacity of 14 passengers": can it take prams? Can it take a typical load of summer tourists? I'd guess not. So why not a purpose-built commuter bus like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:NorBus.JPG
