Tom, I know this isn't the proper topic to respond with my latest comment, but I want to opine on Killarney Sports Centre's 25-metre swimming pool and the threat of legal action by hoteliers on grounds of unfair competition.
I do not see grounds for unfair competition. Hoteliers think their pools are in competition with the subsidised facility, but actually by their intended purpose I think not, and my reasoning is this:
Hotel swimming pools are primarily for guests as part of their hotel leisure pursuits.
By contrast, sports centre swimming pools are primarily for learning to swim, training, and competition.
There is clearly a difference of purpose and target customers between hotels and sports centres' facilities, this is the norm worldwide and Killarney should be no different.
You should use this argument to counteract the hotels should they proceed with legal measures.
