Cllr. Tom Doherty put forward the following motion at the
previous meeting of Killarney town council , “That this Council contact the
department of health. This is to establish the policy for emergency ambulance
service in the Killarney area”.
Cllr. Tom Doherty stated that such a service is vital for such
a busy town of activity. Any reduction in cover could be detrimental. There is also the vast increase of tourist numbers
visiting during the summer months alongside the residents and regular commuters
shopping and socialising from a wide radius. It is imperative to have cover for
at least two fully equipped working ambulances for our area. I am also
concerned about the centralized call centre as a strong geographical knowledge of
local town lands is a must. I look forward to a speedy response from the department
of health.
